Another NFL franchise has entered the fray for the potential signing of Texas A&M's legendary wide receiver in free agency.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be another team to watch for Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. With Mike McCarthy entering his first season as the head coach in Pittsburgh, he could make a massive splash by adding Evans to the roster, as he would instantly improve the Steelers' wide receiving corps alongside DK Metcalf.
Entering the offseason, the wide receiver position is critical for Pittsburgh. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers has emphasized the importance of improving at the position for the 2026 campaign. If the Steelers do not find a gem through free agency to help at wide receiver, the franchise's star quarterback could be on his way out as well, according to NFL insider Mark Kaboly.
While the Steelers are not the only team making strides toward potentially signing Evans, a move to Pittsburgh could be the perfect fit for both parties. Evans would have the opportunity to compete for another team besides Tampa Bay for the first time in his professional football career, with one of the most legendary quarterbacks in NFL history at the helm.
Per Steelers beat writer Ray Fittipaldo, Evans would be an excellent option as a player and a mentor for the young wide receivers Pittsburgh will pursue in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Evans recorded 11 consecutive seasons of 1,000 receiving yards or more, but did not hit that threshold this season due to hamstring injuries. The 32-year-old recorded fewer than 400 receiving yards through just eight games played in 2025. With Tampa Bay officially looking to move on from Evans and begin building a more youthful wide receiving corps around quarterback Baker Mayfield, the decision to test the free agency waters was mutual between the two parties.
Other teams like the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles have been top contenders for Evans, as they look to make a massive offseason splash.
Regardless of where Evans ends up entering his 13th season in the league, he has the potential to be one of the top wideouts when healthy. The Steelers, Bills and Eagles have been the most-rumored landing spots for the Aggies' former star, but other names like the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers could be other franchises to watch for in the next few weeks.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he's like, 'Hey, let me see what you're gonna do here,'" he said. "Because I'm not coming back, all due respect to his buddy (Ben) Skrowronek, but with Roman Wilson and Skowronek, and that's about it."

"One WR who makes sense is Mike Evans. He's an older player and would not command a huge contract," Fittipaldo said. "They're going to draft at least one and maybe two receivers in this draft. They would need a good mentor who can show them the NFL ropes. DK Metcalf is a good teammate, but he doesn't strike me as the mentor type."

"Speaking of Mike Evans, I truly believe he’ll be in a new uniform next year," NBC Sports' Matthew Berry said. "The Buccaneers love him, but given the commitment they made to Chris Godwin last year and a deep young WR room, Tampa Bay is okay letting him go elsewhere. I heard Buffalo as a potential landing spot for Evans and possibly Philly if the Eagles decide to move A.J. Brown."
