Could Sporting KC sign Egyptian, Premier League star Mohamed Salah?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sporting KC is now considered one of the frontrunners to land Premier League legend Mohamed Salah if he chooses to cross the Atlantic Ocean to play in Major League Soccer this summer, The Athletic reports.

The report comes after Salah’s Egyptian National Team was eliminated by the defending champion Argentina squad earlier this week in the round of 16, as well as Salah’s announcement that he’ll leave Liverpool after a legendary nine-year career.

That career included accolades and records like the fourth-most goals in Premier League history, the most Premier League goals in Liverpool history, most Premier League assists for Liverpool, the joint-most Premier League Golden Boots (tied with Arsenal’s Thierry Henry) and much more.

Sporting KC now seems to be joining the Saudi Pro League in the race for Salah, according to sources who spoke with The Athletic. Those sources told the outlet that multiple other MLS clubs showed interest in the 34-year-old winger as well, but Sporting KC is the frontrunner.

The Athletic also reports that Sporting KC is not only interested in Salah, but is working on possible deals for Toulouse winger Yann Gboho and Olympiacos winger Andre Luiz, both of which would be worth in the $18-20 million range.

At the bottom of the standings in the MLS Western Conference, an aggressive summer is a good sign for Sporting KC fans ahead of the season resuming on July 16 with a match between St. Louis SC and Sporting KC at Enegizer Park in STL.
