The 2026 NFL draft is less than a week away, and New York Giants fans are both excited and curious about the prospect of landing a big-time stud with the fifth overall selection.
Every year, the draft appears to be fairly cut and dry at the top, and every year, there's a team that either pulls off a blockbuster trade or selects a player that many feel shouldn't go that high.
Could that team this year be the Giants?
In the latest episode of his Breaking Big Blue podcast, host Jordan Raanan, the ESPN Giants beat reporter, had an in-depth discussion with renowned NFL analyst and mock draft expert Peter Schrager on the Giants' strategy and options for the upcoming 2026 NFL draft. Everything, apparently, is on the table right now.
At No. 5 overall, the conversation listed the four main possibilities for the Giants: Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, Miami offensive tackle Francis Maiugoa, and Ohio State's two top defensive stars, safety Caleb Downs and linebacker Sonny Styles.
Schrager spoke about the strong wide receiver class coming out and told Raanan that a source of his believes that six can be selected in the first 15 picks.
Ohio State's Carnell Tate is likely the first one off the board, perhaps before the Giants are even on the clock at No. 5. Then comes a slew of enticing options: Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, Makai Lemon of USC, Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr., KC Concepcion of Texas A&M, and Washington's Denzel Boston.
"One to six, and they might have it completely different, the top three than the bottom three," Schrager said. "So I think all six of those guys go in the first round. I think all six of those guys go in the top 25. But I am fascinated to see the order when it all washes out."
"And oh, by the way," Schrager added, "I wouldn't cross off Jordyn Tyson as a possibility to the Giants at five. I was just about to say that. Imagine we leave. I'm not, I'm saying I should have led off with that."
Schrager made a compelling case for Tyson, who will work out for NFL scouts, coaches, and executives on Friday.
"I think Tyson, if he has a good workout, and the Giants are looking at this draft, I don't see any premium players at the positions that we pay. And I think this kid could be a number one. And next to (Malik) Nabers, could be a dynamic duo. We don't have a true No. 2 that anyone's scared of right now," he said.
"Jordyn Tyson again... Wild swing of the bat because he's had ACL, MCL, collar bone, hamstring, but when he plays, he is as good as anyone out there.
Schrager continued, doubling down on his thoughts about Tyson to the Giants.
"If Jordyn Tyson has a clean workout on April 17th in front of NFL personnel, I would not be shocked if he went fifth overall to the New York Giants. There are a lot of different options, but this guy is a true No. 1. And the only question, the only question is his health and his availability," he said.
"But if you're talking about a home run pick at a value position, it's not at running back, it's not at safety, and it's not at off-the- ball linebacker. It's wide receiver. So if he gets a clean bill of health and everyone likes what they see, like top 5 is not crazy to me."
Friday will be the true test for Tyson. If he wows, everyone's mock draft could be ruined, and the Giants could be the team stepping in to do that.
