BIRMINGHAM — Coosa Christian scored twice in the final three minutes to stun Lanett to win the Class 2A state title game.

Mac Long was the hero, scoring with 22 seconds left in the game to secure the 29-22 victory for the Conquerors, delivering them the program's first state title.

The Conquerors' offense was kept in check for most of the second half, being held scoreless until a Kylen Johnson rushing touchdown and two-point try tied the game with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Johnson finished with just 90 total yards and two scores, leaving the game with an injury late in the fourth quarter.

The Conquerors allowed a last-second quarter touchdown but stopped the ensuing two-point try to take a two-point advantage into the half. Kylen Johnson continued his big season with two first-half touchdowns for the Conquerors, one rushing and one receiving.

The Conquerors battled through a season that saw coach Mark O'Bryant suspended for the year as part of an effort to move past a postseason ban and lawsuit that was brought by the school. The school turned to Rush Propst to be the interim coach.

The Conquerors played for a state title in 2023, falling to Leroy. They were kept out of the 2024 playoffs but were the No. 3 team in the state before falling.

For Propst, this is his eighth overall state title after winning five at Hoover from 2000-2005. He went over to Georgia and won two more with Colquitt County.
