The contract incentives have been released for New England Patriots defensive end Dre’Mont Jones, who was one of the team's biggest free agent signings.
According to the Boston Globe's Ben Volin, Jones is eligible to be paid up to $1 million in incentives, including $250,000 in bonuses for playing on 60 percent, 65 percent, 70 percent and 75 percent of the defensive snaps for New England in the 2026 season.
This is a relatively smart deal for the Patriots this offseason, given the losses they've experienced on the defensive front. K'Lavon Chaisson, who racked up 7.5 sacks for the team last season, signed with the Washington Commanders in free agency. The team released edge defender Anfernee Jennings and lost defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga to the Kansas City Chiefs.
They clearly need help along the defensive front, and they're hopeful that Jones can add a spark after signing a three-year, $36.5 million base contract.
So far, Jones and Harold Landry III are the Patriots' top edge rushers currently on the roster. That makes it easier for Jones to hit all of his incentives this year. Granted, the Patriots could still add another veteran through free agency or use one of their top picks in the 2026 NFL Draft on a young prospect.
At the very least, Jones will have a chance to shine in a defensive system that made lesser names better on the football field.
