The contract details for new Rutgers women’s basketball head coach Gary Redus II have been released thanks to an OPRA request made by NJ.com. According to the report, Redus has signed a five-year contract that is worth a total of $4 million before any bonuses come into play.
His salary will start at $750,000 and will increase by $25,000 every year for five years until his contract is up in 2031. Redus’ salary this year is less than what former head coach Coquese Washington would have earned, as she was set to earn $825,000 this season. In addition to his base salary, Redus has the potential to earn more money based on the accolades he achieves.
Individual Incentives
National Coach of the Year: $20,000
Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year: $10,000
Team-Based Incentives
Big Ten Conference Tournament Champion: $25,000.
Big Ten Regular Season Champion: $25,000.
NCAA Tournament Appearance: $25,000.
NCAA Round of 32 Appearance: $25,000.
NCAA Sweet 16 Appearance: $25,000.
NCAA Elite 8 Appearance: $50,000.
NCAA Final Four Appearance: $75,000.
NCAA National Championship: $100,000.
Grade-Based Incentives
If Team GPA is 3.0 or Higher: $5,000
Academic Progress Rate at or above 950: $5,000
The buyout structure on his contract states that Redus must pay Rutgers 25% of his remaining contract value if he terminates his contract for another position. If Rutgers terminates his contract before the five years are up, the department will owe him 90% of his remaining salary.
In addition to his own salary, Redus will be granted a minimum amount of $850,000 for assistant coaching salaries, along with a minimum amount of $275,000 for other support staff.
