The ringwalks for the fight between Conor McGregor and Max Holloway will end a five-year wait and guessing game.
How good could McGregor be after such a long layoff? Will he have the conditioning to survive more than a few rounds? Will all of Ireland show up at the T-Mobile Arena to watch the Irishman?
The answers will determine the outcome of the welterweight bout scheduled for five rounds at UFC 329 on Saturday, July 11, in Las Vegas.
McGregor, 37, has come across as more focused and contained than the bombastic character who rose to stardom before a broken leg drove him to the sidelines. But he has vowed to be venomous.
Also, McGregor has aged substantially since his last fight. But Justin Gaethje was 37 when he pulled off a shocking victory over Ilia Topuria at the White House on June 14.
Alexander Volkanovski, the reigning featherweight champion, is 37. Valentina Shevchenko, the reigning women’s bantamweight champion, is 38.
Age is unlikely to be a problem for McGregor.
He has reported having an excellent training camp. But his fitness and cardio level might be a mystery even to him until he gets into the Octagon with the 34-year-old Holloway.
Even if the Irish refuse to travel to Las Vegas, McGregor likely would remain the crowd favorite. And he’s someone who likely would ride that wave of intensity, whether the ride ends in victory or defeat.
Time: approximately 11 p.m. ET
