Confirmed: Barcelona tie down 16-year-old La Masia wonderkid to new contract


Barcelona have taken an important step in protecting one of the brightest prospects to emerge from La Masia in recent years.


The Catalan club have officially confirmed that highly-rated winger Ruslan Mba has signed a new professional contract, ensuring he will continue his development at the club as he moves into the Juvenil ranks.


The agreement shows Barcelona’s long-term faith in the 16-year-old, who has attracted significant attention with his performances at the youth level.


Despite interest from rivals, the Blaugrana have successfully secured the future of another promising academy talent.

Barcelona confirm Ruslan Mba’s new contract​



The announcement was made by Barcelona through an official statement after the youngster completed the signing alongside the club’s youth football director.



Confirming the agreement, Barcelona released the following statement:


“Player Ruslan Mba has signed, in the presence of the Director of Youth Football, José Ramón Alesanco, his continuation with the Club in his youth stage,” read the statement.


Primarily a left-footed winger, the youngster is capable of operating on either flank.


His pace, direct dribbling and ability to attack defenders in one-on-one situations have made him one of the standout performers in Barcelona’s youth setup.

Barcelona had beaten Espanyol for Mba​



According to reports, local rivals Espanyol made a serious attempt to convince the winger to switch clubs back when he was signing for Barcelona.


However, Barcelona ultimately won the battle to keep the youngster, thanks to a key role played byAlbert Puig Alcaide, one of the club’s leading figures in youth recruitment, who convinced both Mba and his family that joining Barcelona would be a better decision.


The club had already shown its confidence by offering him the longest contract permitted for a player under the age of 18, tying him down until 2026.


Following his continued progress, Barcelona have now rewarded him with another extension.
