For the third time in the last week, the Washington Commanders have made a move on their offensive line that doesn't involve an extension for left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The Commanders and veteran guard Nick Allegretti agreed to terms on a new two-year deal that will lower his cap hit for 2026, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. Allegretti was entering the final season of a three-year deal signed in 2024.
The new contract is not adding two years to the current one year remaining on his deal; instead, it reworks the contract and adds one year. It now goes through the 2027 season. Allegretti was scheduled to count $7.1 million against the 2026 salary cap.
Last week, the Commanders re-signed veteran guard/tackle Andrew Wylie to a new two-year deal. Wylie has started games at tackle and guard for Washington over the past three seasons, and retaining him was a priority. Washington surprisingly released starting center Tyler Biadasz last week.
Starting left guard Chris Paul is a free agent and is expected to test free agency. The Commanders could start 2024 third-round pick Brandon Coleman at left guard in 2026. He started at left guard for the first two games of 2025 before being replaced by Paul. However, Coleman played well when he returned to the lineup later in the season in relief of Tunsil at left tackle and as a third tight end.
As for Biadasz's replacement, Allegretti could be the top contender. He started at left guard in the 2024 season before becoming a reserve last season. When playing in relief of Biadasz at center, he didn't necessarily play well. He gives Washington options in case it doesn't land someone in free agency.
The next move for the offensive line could be an extension for Tunsil, which is expected to be a top-of-the-market deal.

A three-time Super Bowl winner with the Chiefs, Allegretti started the last two games for Washington at center last season in place of injured Tyler Biadasz, who is being released.
