Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters can call his first year with the organization a huge success. He took a four-win team in 2023 to the NFC Championship game in 2024, largely because the free agency signings and draft picks in 2024 panned out exactly how they needed to. It doesn't always work out that way, but the Commanders got to benefit from things actually going how they were supposed to go. Now, the 2025 NFL draft is a little over a week away, and everyone wants to know: Will Peters be able to do it again?
The answer to that question won't be discovered until the season actually starts, but who the team selects in the draft will be an indication of what the Commanders are trying to do. In a recent mock draft by Fox Sports, the Commanders are projected to select defensive lineman J.T. Tuimoloau.
Tuimoloau played as a reserve his freshman year but landed a starting role as a sophomore and never looked back. At 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, he's got solid size for his position and is athletic enough to use that size appropriately. He relies heavily on power in his game, which may present a problem at the next level. He'll need to refine some of the intricate parts of his game to be successful in the NFL.
The Commanders still need an edge rusher. Tuimoloau improved every year he was at Ohio State, achieving first-team All-Big Ten honors three years in a row and culminating in a National Championship run. He's the kind of guy who puts his head down and does the work, on and off the field, to improve every day. He's not flashy, but he gets the job done, and that's what NFL teams want to see.
