The Washington Commanders confirmed that veteran tight end Zach Ertz has been placed on the injured reserve list, following his devastating knee injury in Week 14.
An MRI confirmed that Ertz suffered a torn ACL in his right knee after taking a brutal hit from Vikings safety Jay Ward late in the third quarter. Ertz was placed on IR on Wednesday morning.
Ertz, 35, has been one of the most productive and durable players for Washington this season, compiling 50 receptions for 504 yards and four touchdowns. He also recently moved into fifth place on the NFL’s all-time receptions list for tight ends with 825 career catches. His loss leaves a significant void in the Commanders' offense, removing one of the team’s veteran leaders and key offensive weapons.
Ertz’s absence will force adjustments at tight end and on the offensive line, while Daniels’ injury history continues to be a concern. John Bates and Ben Sinnott sit behind Ertz in the Commanders' depth chart and will see an increased role on the field in the remaining weeks of the 2025 NFL season.
