This is going to surprise absolutely no one, but the Washington Commanders saw a couple more starters get injured in Week 16.
This has been a brutal season for the Commanders, and at this point, it would be easier to tell you who HASN'T gotten hurt this season. In Week 16, quarterback Marcus Mariota left the game with a hand injury and didn't return. Mariota was recently named the starter for the rest of the season to avoid further injuries to Jayden Daniels.
Then, on the final drive of the game, with the Commanders in a big hole, starting offensive linemen Brandon Coleman and Sam Cosmi both went down with injuries. Coleman limped off the field, and as he was heading to the locker room, Cosmi went down as well.
Coleman started Saturday's game at left tackle for Laremy Tunsil. Tunsil missed his first game of the season after suffering a strained oblique.
Cosmi, meanwhile, missed the first six games of the 2025 season as he recovered from a torn ACL. Since returning, Cosmi has been starting at right guard and has performed well.
After the game, head coach Dan Quinn gave a brief update on both players.
"Brandon Coleman had a shin injury, so I don't have any updates," Quinn said after the game.
As for Cosmi, he and defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton were being evaluated for concussions.
Obviously, if either of these players misses time, it would be a significant loss. Coleman is the starting left tackle when Tunsil is out and can also fill in at guard, while Cosmi anchors the right side of the line. Veteran Andrew Wylie will likely fill in at right guard if Cosmi has to miss time.
At this point, the Commanders likely just want the season to end. The team fell to 4-11 on the season with a loss to the Eagles on Saturday, and is dealing with key injuries on both sides of the ball.
We'll likely know more about Cosmi and Coleman's status tomorrow afternoon.
