Enough of this talk about Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels needing more help.
Of course, there is truth in the fact that you want to do what you can to help your quarterback. But having heard this so much this offseason, I am tired of the simplicity that says "THE" one way to most help your quarterback is to obtain a couple of receivers.
Of course, that could help Jayden Daniels, and without question, Commanders GM Adam Peters attempted to sign free-agent receivers Alec Pierce (Colts) and Romeo Doubs (Packers to Patriots). Peters also drafted a receiver in the third round when he selected Clemson wideout, Antonio Williams.
Yet I continue to hear, "The Commanders haven't done enough for Jayden Daniels." It is also a familiar refrain: "The Commanders better sign Brandon Aiyuk." Well, it would be nice to get him on the cheap, if he can still play. Yes, I said, "If." Come on, folks, if he wasn't checking in for his rehabilitation and physical therapy sessions, doesn't that tell you he most likely wasn't working out as he was supposed to?
We don't know have a clue regarding the physical condition of Aiyuk's knee. Nor do we know what sort of NFL receiver Aiyuk is these days. He hasn't played a down since the seventh game of the 2024 season. We don't know his emotional makeup, given the immature and irresponsible decisions he made regarding his body and his financial future.
What does that matter? Well, what makes you think signing Aiyuk would be automatically supporting of Daniels? At this point, we don't know if it would be. We "hope" his arrival would be supportive and productive for the offense and Daniels in the passing game, but we don't "know" it will be.
But what is certain is that Peters has made numerous personnel decisions this offseason that will help this team. Several moves on the offense, several moves on the defense. Hey, Peters has even ensured competition at kicker in this year's training camp. All of these moves to make the team deeper, better, and all of that, whether we want to understand that or not, help the team, most importantly, and secondarily, help Daniels.
