With all of the changes made to the Washington Commanders' roster this offseason, the one area they didn't do much with was at wide receiver. Adam Peters spent much of his time revamping the defense, which ranked among the worst in the NFL in 2025. He brought in a few new faces on offense, improving the wide receiver depth, but he didn't land the impact player opposite Terry McLaurin that Washington has needed.
With no big name on the roster to line up opposite McLaurin, opposing defenses would not struggle to determine where the ball is going. On Wednesday, the Commanders remedied that by signing four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The 11-year veteran has seven seasons with over 1,000 yards receiving, so what does that mean for the Commanders' passing attack in 2026? NFL Network's Adam Rank and Michael F. Florio have thoughts on the fantasy impact of this signing.
"I think Diggs has tremendous value, right now," Florio says. "I think he's been underrated all summer, but it makes sense because he didn't have a team. But I still think he is going to be a value. This guy had the fifth-most 100-yard games amongst wide receivers last season, and he's been a WR2 fantasy-wise every year but one since his second year in the NFL. His current ADP on ESPN is wide receivers 60; I have him in my top 40. I think this is big arrows up for Jayden Daniels, who has been my QB3 all summer. And Terry McLaurin, if his ADP takes a hit here, huge buying opportunity."
Diggs has a history of getting his feathers ruffled when he doesn't get his targets, but he will turn 33 this year, and he understands that his role isn't going to be WR1 for the Commanders. That role has belonged to Terry McLaurin since he was drafted in 2019, and it's not going to change with the addition of Diggs.
What will happen, though, is that Diggs will be a distraction for opposing defenses. Because if they focus solely on McLaurin, Diggs will absolutely tear apart their secondary. That doesn't mean Diggs won't get targeted; he absolutely will, or the original plan fails entirely. The difference with Diggs is that when he is targeted, he's unlikely to drop the ball, and he always finds a way to gain yards after the catch.
Diggs isn't new to sharing snaps. He did the same with the New England Patriots in 2025 and still managed 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 11.9 yards per reception. His impact will be felt on the field, and fantasy managers should absolutely seek to draft him.
