Washington Commanders rookie linebacker Sonny Styles has a history of winning. He's won championships at both the high school and collegiate levels, and he doesn't expect that to change in the NFL.

"I'm chasing after the Super Bowl," Styles recently told CBS Sports. "That's really like the short-term goal, just trying to help the team win.

"Long term, obviously, I want to have multiple Super Bowls, I want to be in the Hall of Fame, and all these things, but just starting like day by day. Right now, I'm trying to earn some playing time, earn a role and help the team win."

No one should be surprised by what Styles said. Every athlete who plays a professional sport at the top level has one goal: Win a championship. Styles has done it at every level so far, so his expectations are high.

But Styles can't do it alone; he needs help on both sides of the ball to get his team to the postseason. That means trusting the offense to do its job and building relationships on defense that foster trust so each defensive player can do what they do best, something Styles says they are already working on.

"I think all the guys are gelling really well," he said. "We actually had a little get-together around the corner this week. Everyone likes each other. It's funny, there's a lot of trash-talking stuff like that, just hanging out. But I think, the more we play together as the year goes on, I think you're gonna see the brotherhood out there on the field, because I see it already in practice. There's a lot of new faces on the defense, so it's nice to have that already."

Creating chemistry for a Commanders' defense with so many new faces is going to be crucial in 2026. Jayden Daniels is only one person, and teams have begun to figure him out, so he definitely can't carry this team the way he did in 2024. The offensive players have to do their part, but the success of the defense is what will truly dictate how the Commanders' season goes.
