In the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Washington Commanders selected offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. The Commanders were looking to add protection for Jayden Daniels, especially with Sam Cosmi going down in 2024 with a torn ACL.
Conerly played over 1,000 snaps in 2025, and while he wasn't at the top of the rankings for offensive linemen, he played his role pretty well as a rookie. As a professional athlete, though, Conerly wants to do better. He allowed 43 pressures on Daniels, including eight sacks and three QB hits. So, this offseason, he set out to make improvements, starting with getting his body in better shape.
Conerly showed up at OTAs looking leaner and stronger, something he was asked about at practice.
"Honestly, I'm still around the same weight, like 310-315. I did cut a heavy amount after the season because I ended the season at like 318 or something around there. I was pretty fat, so I cut down a lot of body fat and added some muscle, I guess."
How did he do that, though?
"Dieting, eating a lot cleaner, eating a little less, and once we got back out here, I feel like I can just add more and more."
With Conerly focused on getting leaner and stronger, his performance on the field is likely to be visible to everyone. He had a rough start to his rookie season, but was much improved in the second half. With his new look and renewed motivation, we could see a whole new player in 2026.

A leaner and meaner Josh Conerly Jr.
The Commanders right tackle lost a lot of body fat and put on some muscle this offseason.
