What does Washington head coach Dan Quinn think about Leo Chenal and Sonny Styles together at linebacker?

The Commanders went out and signed the former Kansas City Chiefs starting linebacker, and then found they couldn't resist when Ohio State linebacker (Styles) was still available at No. 7 in the 2026 NFL Draft, so they drafted him as well. Quinn was a guest on "The Sports Junkies" on 106.7 The Fan and was asked about playing both at the same time.

"We want to use them all; that's Frankie (Luvu) as well," Quinn said. "You'll see some three-backer packages, a good bit of the time. All three of them have the length, the speed, the demeanor to blitz, which is a big advantage when you can bring different people from multiple spots."

Quinn also wanted to note that they were very happy to have Chenal agree to sign with the Commanders, leaving the Chiefs. Quinn thinks Chenal could really help with the tackling, which was a weakness with the 2025 team.

"One of the things about Leo, though he has good size to him, is that the guy can absolutely fly. He's a secure tackler and square. So, adding different versatility at different spots, that helps us a lot. You're going to see that on the edges from Odafe (Oweh), KC (K'Lavon Chaisson) and DA (Dorance Armstrong). You'll see it at backer with the three guys we just mentioned and Jordan Magee."

Magee has shown flashes; it would be great if he could begin to put his athletic ability together with the experience he has gained over the last two seasons, learning from future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner.

But Quinn saw the need to bring several different faces to a defense that gave up the most yards in the NFL in 2025. He is already dreaming of how much better this defense could be in 2026. "So in the front seven, we've got real versatility to move guys into different locations, different spots. Leo (Chenal) is very much in the forefront of our thinking on that as well.

What was a real weakness in 2025, has Quinn upbeat at least for now as we enter OTA's this week.
