Commanders' center departs practice with undisclosed injury

While almost everyone believes the Washington Commanders must add a veteran wide receiver before Week 1, it may not even be the team's biggest offensive concern. The center position, at least to those on the outside, remains a concern.

Nick Allegretti heads into the 2026 season as the projected starter. He replaces Tyler Biadasz, who was surprisingly released just before free agency. Allegretti, who started at left guard two years ago, spent the offseason working as Washington's No. 1 center, earning the full confidence of the coaching staff.

However, on Day 1 of Commanders' training camp on Wednesday, Allegretti left the field with an apparent injury, per John Doran of WUSA 9 in Washington, D.C.

Head coach Dan Quinn spoke to the media before practice, so there's no update on Allegretti's status. Quinn will certainly address it when he meets with the media again on Thursday. If Allegretti were to miss time, rookie sixth-round pick Matt Gulbin would receive increased snaps. Washington could also move Brandon Coleman to center, as Quinn has hinted at it in the past.

As of now, veteran Julian Good-Jones is likely the Commanders' No. 2 center.
