The Washington Commanders' offensive coaching staff looks almost complete after Monday's promotions of Darnell Stapleton to offensive line coach and Shane Toub to assistant offensive line coach. This came over a week after the Commandersparted ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and promoted assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough to offensive coordinator.

However, more changes could come to Washington's offensive staff. The Buffalo Bills requested permission to interview run game coordinator/running backs coach Anthony Lynn for their head coaching position. Lynn, 57, played eight seasons in the NFL before getting into coaching. He had a previous stint with the Bills (2015-16), where he served as the assistant head coach/running backs coach the first season. In 2016, he was promoted to offensive coordinator and replaced Rex Ryan later in the season as interim coach.

In 2017, Lynn landed a head coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers. In four seasons as coach, Lynn finished with a 33-31 record, including a 1-1 postseason record. Lynn was Justin Herbert's first NFL coach in 2020. After being fired, Lynn landed with the Detroit Lions in 2021 as the offensive coordinator. That's where he first encountered Blough, who was a backup quarterback on Detroit's roster.

Former Bills assistant head coach and current Commanders run game coordinator Anthony Lynn — a finalist for the Buffalo head coaching job in 2017 that went to Sean McDermott — is scheduled to interview for the Bills head coach job Saturday, per a league source.

Lynn then moved to San Francisco in 2022, serving as the assistant head coach/running backs coach for two seasons. In 2024, he joined Washington.

Lynn was a finalist for Buffalo's head coaching job in 2017 that went to Sean McDermott, who was just fired on Monday.

If Lynn departs, that would be a big loss for Blough. Lynn's experienced voice is important for the Commanders, especially considering Blough's age and the relative inexperience of some of Washington's assistants.
