it's called business boys. there are many factors that go into it. even if he "used" the cards to drive up his price, that's what a good businessman does. let's face it, if the cards had ever done anything right in the past then we wouldn't be perennial losers and other players would consider us for more than just money. we suck, we suck, we suck, we suck. repeat it with me, 'cuz it's the only way it's gonna get through to some of you dunderheads.

I knew some kind of assinine statement like this would appear. I knew someone would say screw colvin just because he didnt pick the cards. The guy is noble and probably one of the best guys around. Im sure the pats winning the SB 2 years ago had something to do with his decision. He wants to win and he showed that money wasnt his striving force. I wish more players were like that. He also likes Bill B. and knows he is a defensive minded coach and that he fir into there system. This is all i have heard about because i live in pat country. He liked the system, the coach, the owner, and most importantly the WINNING!

You just hit the nail on the head. We have always had losing teams and yet, we still have managed to sign top-tier free agents: Duane Starks (top cb available), Pete Kendall (top og available), Freddie Jones (top te available).

However, the David Boston fiasco has harmed this franchise more than anyone within the organization is willing to admit. I mean, players, agents, read the papers, visit websites etc . . . The Cards screwup was based on stupidity, plain and simple, so who can blame them for not wanting to come here.

If it is true that we offered almost 10 million up front, then I think we all need to get off of the Graves-bashing bandwagon. The guy has a hard enough time trying to get FA to seriously consider AZ, let alone having them deny significantly more $$$.

I respectfully disagree. I negotiate for a living, and over the years (11yrs) have been quite successfully at it. And if there's one thing I've learned it's that the manner in which you present your offer is almost as important as the offer itself. You've got to convince your target that you are offering him opportunities that he/she wouldn't otherwise have. The Cards have not done that.

This is directly related to the mishandling of the Boston situation...bad enough this team ahs to deal with the stigma of being a perrenial loser, but then to try and woo FA's w/o hanging on to guys that have proven their worth is ridculous!

Believe me this players all talk and I gurantee you not many kind words were said about this organization. Who can blame Colvin. He wants to win-thats the point-to win a super bowl. He saw no all-pro's on this team, no FA signings, what good reason would he even want to cometo AZ?

I don't bash Graves for not spending. I bash him becasue he let the top FA WR go with no compensation and he lets the FA's that can help our team walk and wait 48hours before they offer a contact. Then, he says don't judge me now wait until camp? Ok. Wait till camp. But the problem is we can see what progress he is making. Not all the in's and out's but the bottom line. No signings.

Oh yea...and I bash him for sticking to the same losing business practices....And another thing....I will bash him again if any of our draft pics hold out. Especially if we low ball the contract, or offer no slotted insurance.

I don't bash him for offering tons of more money. I applaud that because it is the only thing we have. We don't have tradition. We don't play on Monday Nights. We are the butt of jokes.

We will only get the leftovers. We will have to overpay. That's ok. Just as long as we draft well, have no holdouts, our coaches actually get something out of our young talent, and we build loyalty in these players. That means, not just the amount of money, but how the contracts are structured. The bonuses. The freebies here. The freebies there. The insurance policy there. In short, our business practices.

I don't think it was wrong for him to visit even though he knew he wasn't going to sign here. IMO thats just good business. When its all said and done its still a business.

regardless of how one particular player treaeted the team in the eyes of some, The Cardinals have a LONG history of lowballing, not offering industry standard deals, NO creativity...
They cite "the spirit of the labor agreement". When workers hold to the spirit and letter of labor agreements, ie: "work to rules", it results in a virtual shutdown of work...
What the hell - I'm still there every game next season - I'm a local, what am i supposed to do? - bandwagon? be a frontrunner? HELL NO - I will remain RED - I will still decry the Cardinals ownership[ and top management

Our problems did not start with Graves although his Boston fiasco was dumb. Our problem is systemic from many years of poor management/owenership and it is showing loud and clear now. All Graves can do is offer the money. there is no selling to be done as our history speaks for itself.
