Between now and training camp, we will be going through the Indianapolis Colts' full 90-man roster, previewing each player.
Up next is safety Daniel Scott, who wears No. 32.
The Colts selected Scott in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft. He was the 160th overall pick that year.
Injuries have been an unfortunate part of Scott's career up to this point. As a rookie, he suffered an ACL injury in June of that season, and then in the spring of 2024, an Achilles injury ended Scott's second season before it could begin.
Last season, Scott made it through training camp and was on the roster, but was placed on injured reserve prior to Week 5 with a knee injury. He did return to practice late in the year.
He appeared in two games defensively, playing a total of 13 snaps. Scott's contributions primarily came on special teams, where he played 50 snaps over the first four games and did so across three different phases.
The safety room was reshaped this offseason, which has turned it into a crowded position group, making it potentially difficult for Scott to make another roster push.
Cam Bynum, AJ Haulcy, and Hunter Wohler are roster locks, while Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas are recent free agent additions. That is potentially five roster spots accounted for, and it's not often that a team keeps six safeties. For what it's worth, the Colts did keep only four safeties on last year's initial 53-man roster.
That said, the Colts can get out of Owens' and Thomas' deals with relative ease if needed during roster cutdowns. If Scott is going to make a roster push, standing out on special teams will be a must.
