The Atlanta Falcons and running back Bijan Robinson have agreed to a new deal, making Robinson the highest-paid back in the NFL at $22.5 million per year in new money. And the Indianapolis Colts' Jonathan Taylor has taken notice.
“Hopefully, I gotta go talk to my agent, too," Taylor said after Tuesday's practice, via The Athletic's James Boyd. "I gotta go talk to him and see where things are at. I been trying to just focus on getting better, making sure I'm staying in shape. Like I said, I have faith, so I’m gonna tap in and check in with him, now that you guys broke the news to me.”
Taylor is currently set to enter the final year of his deal. He is currently averaging $14 million per year, which ranks as the seventh-most among running backs.
While Taylor likely won't be in the running for the largest running back contract, Robinson resetting the market does raise the floor for others. Earlier this offseason, Miami's Devon Achane agreed to a new contract worth $16 million per year.
Taylor said earlier this offseason he would like to remain with the Colts, and owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon echoed those sentiments. But where exactly contract talks stand is not known at this time.
Taylor remains one of the most productive backs in football, while shouldering a heavy workload out of the backfield. He played in 13 games in 2024 and all 17 games last season, rushing for 1,431 yards and 1,585 yards, respectively.
