Now that the NFL draft festivities and free agency period are over, all eyes are looking ahead to training camp and the upcoming season.
One of the biggest stories that has lingered on throughout the league is the Indianapolis Colts and their terrifying quarterback situation.
The organization has seen enough struggles from third-year player Anthony Richardson and have brought in former New York Giants draft pick Daniel Jones to compete for the starting job.
Both players have been under heavy scrutiny during their careers which leads the masses to believe that this competition won’t be beneficial for anyone in the long run.
General manager Chris Ballard has undoubtedly heard these critiques and offered up his opinion on them earlier this week.

Although Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen have been blunt about Richardson’s need to improve and the areas of his game that need progression, they’ve also been outspoken in their belief and support.
Both men have remained steadfast in their belief that the Florida Gators product will become their quarterback of the future and recent comments from Ballard reinforce that idea.
He joined “The Rich Eisen Show” and spoke about the lack of patience being shown in the NFL today.
Ballard ranted about how players need to be given more time to develop, saying, “We have zero patience with players, especially the quarterback position. If they’re not a superstar right away, then they’re a failure, which I disagree with.”
There is some validity to the argument because it was once a rule of thumb that you cannot fully evaluate a quarterback until their third season in the NFL.
Now, if you don’t show any signs of making a superstar leap by the end of your third year, or sometimes even your second, you are cast away and replaced, especially at quarterback.
Richardson was the youngest player in the NFL when he was drafted and when the 2025 season begins, he will still only be 23 years old.
He was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in 2023, and everyone was aware that he was a raw prospect who was considered a project.
Over the next few months, Indianapolis will hold OTAs, minicamps and training camp before the regular season finally opens in September.
There will soon be long awaited updates about who has the upper hand and who is outperforming who in this quarterback battle.
Richardson possesses some of the most talent in the entire league and the Colts are praying that he can harness it and win the competition.
