When speaking with the media on Thursday, Indianapolis Colts' GM Chris Ballard discussed the futures of DeForest Buckner and Charvarius Ward. Both players' seasons ended early due to injuries.

Buckner missed most of the second half of the season with a neck injury. He returned in Week 16 against San Francisco, but was placed on injured reserve a few days later.

Ward sustained three separate concussions during the 2025 season. He was placed on IR as well.

Ballard said that Buckner underwent successful surgery on his neck injury recently and added that Buckner's mindset is to play in 2026.

Buckner recently shared the same message.

Ward's status moving forward, however, is more up in the air. After the season, Ward expressed that he is contemplating retirement.

"I can't say for sure what direction that's going to go," Ballard said of Ward.

In seven games this season, Ward allowed a completion rate of 57% on 37 targets with seven pass breakups, according to Pro Football Focus.

The 2025 season was Ward's first with the Colts. Indianapolis signed him as a free agent this past offseason.
