Colorado continues to take the transfer portal by storm, adding a fourth commitment on Sunday afternoon with former New Mexico State defensive back Naeten Mitchell announcing his pledge to the Buffs.
Mitchell led the NMSU defense with 93 tackles, six pass breakups and four forced fumbles in 2025. His play earned him a Conference USA all-conference selection.
He is primarily a back-end safety, a position Colorado desperately needs filled now that Tawfiq Byard is moving on. The Buffs will hope that Mitchell's playmaking ability (three interceptions in 2025) will travel with him to Boulder.
Mitchell's commitment brings the Buffaloes' transfer portal haul to nine commitments in just three days since the portal opened on January 2. The New Mexico State transfer is the fifth defensive player to commit, but the first from a secondary position. The CU secondary will need to be significantly overhauled, with only Carter Stoutmire and Ben Finneseth remaining on the roster who played meaningful snaps last season.
