The New York Giants wanted to get bigger, faster, and nastier this offseason, as illustrated in the players they chose in April's NFL draft.

After taking Miami's Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick to bolster the interior and dynamics of the offensive line, they added Illinois' massive tackle J.C. Davis with the 192nd overall selection in Round 6.

The Giants were looking for linemen who not only play with a high motor and a physical edge, but also seek out versatility as well. Davis' college coach, former Giants assistant Bret Bielema, says there's no need to worry about that with his former player.

"I don't know exactly where the Giants are going to play him," Bielema said on the “Giants Huddle” podcast about his former left tackle. "But I told several of the scouts -- I've got a great relationship with the Giants and everybody in that building -- I'm telling you, I literally think he can play all four, both left tackle, right tackle, left guard, and right guard.

"I know there were a lot of people who thought he should move to guard and play only guard, but if they do play him at guard, I think he can pop out at tackle and have a lot of flexibility for you. One of the things I really learned in the NFL, too, was just that word 'flex.' He's a guy that he might be able to plug and play at one position, but he probably has the flexibility to play all four."

The Giants are aware of Davis' ability to be flexible. The 6-foot-4, 322-pound Davis will be used wherever the team needs him.

"Swing guard and tackle. He can play both," head coach John Harbaugh said after the draft. "We just had this conversation. That went a long way in determining where he would play.

"Very talented, athletic, long-armed guy, can bend, can move his feet. He's big. He's got some growing to do as a player, some maturing to do as a player, but we had him in for a visit and talked to him about that at length. Very determined guy. He's determined to kind of develop into his talent level. He's a very talented offensive lineman."

Davis will not be a starter for the Giants right away, but as Harbaugh said, he's still developing. The Giants believe they may have gotten a bit of a steal with him. It's about time the Giants' offensive line was properly restocked.
