It's almost time for the season of chaos.

The college basketball transfer window period is coming soon. While players technically can't enter the portal until the window opens, there are many announcements around the college hoops world already of those who intend to portal.

And be sure that tampering to try and lure players from one program to another is ongoing.

Also a reminder, players who intend to transfer ahead of the 2026-27 basketball season must enter the portal during the open period but they don't have to commit to a new school in that time.

Here is a look at the dates to know and a look at what to keep an eye on for Colorado State.

When does the college basketball transfer portal open?

The men's college basketball transfer portal opens April 7 and closes April 21. Players can't enter the portal after that date unless their program has a coaching change.

The women's college basketball transfer portal opens April 6 and closes April 20.

Teams cannot officially contact potential transfers until they are in the portal (although tampering is frequent and largely unchecked). Transfer recruiting visits can't officially happen until players are officially in the portal. Graduate students who are transferring can be contacted before the normal portal period.

What to watch for Colorado State

The CSU men's team can return most of the 2025-26 roster. Jevin Muniz is the only player out of eligibility (there is an outside shot he could receive a fifth year of eligibility but that's not the most likely result right now).

Coach Ali Farokhmanesh has said he's hopeful most of the core of the rotation return to provide CSU with continuity. The Rams will have transfers out, but if most of the eight in the rotation can return do so it will be a win for CSU.

Retention is key, but the Rams will also likely look to add as well (especially depending on who leaves).

The CSU women made the 2026 NCAA Tournament and nearly upset No. 5 Michigan State.

Lexus Bargesser, Hannah Ronsiek, Marta Leimane, Jadyn Fife, Lexi Deden and Madelyn Bragg were all honored late in the season as departing seniors. In that group are four of CSU's six leading scorers from this season.

The two leading scorers who can return are juniors-to-be in Kloe Froebe and Brooke Carlson. Carlson poured in a career-high 26 points in the NCAA Tournament game.

Given the volume of departing seniors, there will be building to be done in the portal.

Thus far, no CSU players (men or women) have announced intentions to transfer out.
