Colin Cowherd Explains How A.J. Brown Takes Patriots Offense To Next Level originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots already had one of the best offenses in the NFL last year, ranking second in points and third in total yards. Led by NFL MVP runner-up Drake Maye, their passing game was elite as well, ranking fourth in passing yards and fifth in passing touchdowns despite ranking 23rd in pass attempts.
Now, with Maye heading into his third season, New England's offense is poised to be even better this year after adding A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs to its aerial attack.
Brown in particular, whom the Patriots traded for on Monday, is one of the league's best receivers and has been so for nearly a decade despite being trapped in two run-heavy offenses in the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles.
On Tuesday's episode of "The Herd," Colin Cowherd explained how adding Brown will supercharge New England's offense.

"He changes the way everybody is going to be facing New England," Cowherd said. "It helps the tight ends. You can't cheat. It helps the run game. A.J. Brown is gonna fundamentally change the offense for New England... He is the perfect icing to the New England cake."
Cowherd noted that Brown is top four in both receiving yards and touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2019 despite playing in two run-heavy schemes with relatively average quarterbacks in Ryan Tannehill and Jalen Hurts.
Maye is one of the league's best passers, however, after leading the NFL in completion rate, yards per attempt and passer rating. He has the ability to unlock Brown and help him have his best season in years, whereas Brown could help Maye take another step forward in Year 3 or at least replicate last year's MVP-caliber production.
With Josh McDaniels still calling the plays, the Patriots should have one of the league's most explosive offenses next season.
