Coco Gauff continued her quest to win her first-ever Australian Open title by defeating Karolina Muchova in the fourth round.
Gauff needed three sets to defeat the number 19 seed, but she looked as impressive as she has done all week.
The American set up a quarter-final match with Elina Svitolina, after the Ukrainian defeated Mirra Andreeva in her round of 16 match.
Gauff has never reached further than the semi-final of the Australian Open, but she’s received a good omen after beating Muchova.

Coco Gauff’s championship pedigree after beating Karolina Muchova
Gauff has won all four of her matches against Muchova and when she has done so she’s gone on to lift the trophy.
Gauff first defeated Muchova in the Cincinnati Open final in 2023, but she’s also notched up wins in earlier stages against the Czech opponent.
The star’s sole victory at her home Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open 2023 saw Gauff defeat Muchova in the semi-final.
Likewise, victories at the 2024 China Open and the 2024 United Cup saw Gauff lift the trophy after beating Muchova.
This will surely give Gauff a major boost as she looks ahead to her match with Svitolina, where she can match her best-ever performance at the Australian Open.
Should Gauff win the match, she will play the winner of Aryna Sabalenka and Iva Jovic in the Melbourne semi-final.
Why Chris Evert is ‘tired’ of criticisms of Coco Gauff
Gauff might be a multi-time Grand Slam champion and the current world number three, but she often faces question marks around the weaker parts of her game.
The American’s serve, in particular, is often intrinsically analysed by fans and pundits, especially last season when she hit more double faults than any other WTA player.
American tennis icon, Chris Evert, has defended Gauff while on commentary for her game against Muchova.
Speaking about criticisms of her serve, she said: “I’m getting tired of hearing it. I think we need to celebrate the best parts of her game instead of just the serve.”
Gauff won two tournaments last season despite her serving woes, including her very first Roland Garros title.
