During the first media session of Todd Monken's voluntary minicamp on Wednesday, Deshaun Watson was apparently in the building but not talking.
Nick Wilson and J. Peterlin of 92.3 The Fan had a message for him, and it was about as direct as Cleveland media gets.
"If Deshaun doesn't want to speak in front of the media or he doesn't want to speak before the fans because his feelings are hurt because of what's transpired, then ask for your release. Get out of town."
Watson won't talk, but Cleveland has already said enough for him
Despite the Browns restructuring his contract in March to lower his massive $80.7 million scheduled cap hit, which the Browns can't easily get out of without taking a huge financial hit, Deshaun Watson is in a tough spot.
The team's management says the quarterback job is up for grabs, and new coach Monken wants to figure things out before the preseason games start.
Watson has been working out with some of his teammates like Jerry Jeudy, Isaiah Bond, and Jamari Thrash before the OTAs, which at least signals the arm is functional.
He has played 19 games in four seasons. He missed all of 2025 recovering from two Achilles ruptures while Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel took the snaps.
Whatever goodwill Watson built before the suspension and the injuries is long gone, and Browns fans have absorbed enough of this saga to know the difference between showing up to practice and showing up for the city.
And on Wednesday, Wilson said what most people around Cleveland were already thinking. If the feelings are too hurt to speak, request your release and go somewhere else.
