Clemson softball took care of business on the road Wednesday night, knocking off Western Carolina Catamounts softball 7-3 in Cullowhee, powered by a balanced offensive attack and a strong showing in the circle.

It didn’t start clean by any means. Clemson fell behind early after Western Carolina scratched across a run in the first, and for a couple of innings, the Tigers looked like they were still settling in. But once the bats got going, it flipped fast.

Clemson tied things up in the third, then took control in the fourth behind timely hitting and pressure on the bases. From there, it felt like the Tigers were in control the rest of the night. They added on in the fifth and created separation in the sixth, turning a tight game into a comfortable one heading into the final inning.

What stood out most wasn’t one big swing; it was how many different players contributed. Clemson finished with 12 hits and had production throughout the lineup. Julia Knowler led the way with 2 hits and 2 RBI, continuing to be a reliable presence in the middle of the order. Taylor Pipkins added 2 hits, scored twice, and drove in a run, while J. Brockenbrough and Mac Paves each chipped in with multi-hit performances of their own.

It was the kind of night where Clemson didn’t need one star to carry them. They just kept passing it along, putting pressure on Western Carolina every inning until something gave.

In the circle, Clemson got a steady two-part performance. Abby Dunning handled the start, working 3.1 innings while allowing just one earned run and keeping things within reach early. From there, Sierra Maness took over and shut things down, going 3.2 innings to earn the win and help close the door.

As a staff, Clemson racked up 13 strikeouts, showing just how overpowering they can be when everything is working. Western Carolina had its moments, but never found a sustained rhythm against the Tigers’ pitching.

More than anything, this was a clean, complete win. Clemson responded after falling behind, got contributions across the lineup, and controlled the game late. It wasn’t flashy, but it was exactly what you want to see this time of year.

And if Clemson keeps getting this kind of depth at the plate and consistency in the circle, they’re going to continue to be a tough team to slow down moving forward.
