The rules at Boston Stadium are pretty strict for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Under the guidance of FIFA, there are several things that attendees are not allowed to bring to the international soccer games hosted at the Foxboro stadium, such as no refillable waterbottles and a clear bag policy.

"All FIFA stadiums follow a clear bag policy to maintain a safe and efficient entry process. Ticket Holders are only permitted to bring certain types of bags into Stadiums," the FIFA website said. "These approved bags must be clear and made of plastic, vinyl, or PVC material."

Violate this rule or others, and match-goers can expect to have to return the item to their car or be denied entry. So, most bags are out of the question, whether it's tote bags, duffel bags, or big purses.

Except for bagpipes apparently, at least according to a videos of World Cup attendees playing the bagpipes at Boston Stadium on the day of the Scotland versus Haiti match, despite the bag not being clear or made out of plastic vinyl or PVC material.

How did people get bagpipes into Gillette Stadium?

While the fan (presumably part of the Tartan Army) in the video is clearly bringing joy to most of the people in attendance, the question does remain of how did he get his bagpipes past the notoriously inscrutable FIFA stadium security?

Even under the argument that this is an instrument and not technically a bag (even though bag is in the name), the FIFA rules exclude the large instrument.

The rules specifically disallow "any musical instruments (mechanical or manual) that cannot be fully visualized by security or that are larger than 12cm x 12cm x 12cm (4.7 inches x 4.7 inches x 4.7 inches)."

There hasn't been an official statement by Gillette Stadium or FIFA about this; however, there is a way that this fan may have been able to get this large instrument into the stadium.

"Ticket Holders may bring musical instrument larger than the indicated size subject to preapproval of the Event Organisers and security screening," the FIFA website said.

So, it's possible some people got additional security screening or preapproval to proceed into Boston Stadium with the bagpipes intact and playable. Other people with large instruments were able to get theirs through security, as shown by this video featured on the Gillette Stadium Instagram, that shows fans with drums.
