Clashes in Leipzig on eve of Conference League final

A group of English people were being held by police for allegedly breaching the peace after a skirmish in Leipzig 24 hours before Crystal Palace’s Conference League final with Rayo Vallecano in the German city.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show two groups clashing, with a number of chairs being thrown.

The Press Association understands the incident took place outside an Irish bar and ended with a group of English people being held by German police.

A spokesperson for London's Metropolitan Police said German officers had explained that the crowd were being held over an alleged breach of peace, which would constitute a criminal offence under German law.

The group were as a result subject to police control measures, including detention, establishment of ID, search of person, and full-body photograph.
