Could Roger Goodell soon be shaking hands with draft prospects on stage in Cincinnati?
If things go according to plan, the NFL draft could be coming to the Cincinnati Bengals’ home in 2028.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the city is in talks with the NFL to bring the event to Cincinnati in 2029, following the league’s announcement that the draft will be held in Minneapolis in 2028.
The city is still in the process of finding space for the event, but Cincinnati Regional Sports Commission Director Ben Huffman said, “Wherever (the NFL) would like it to be, we will make it happen.”
“While the landscape is highly competitive, there is clear interest in bringing events to Cincinnati,” Huffman added said. “And we are well-positioned to capitalize on that momentum.”
The draft has seen record numbers in recent years. The 2026 edition, held in Pittsburgh, saw an attendance of over 800,000, breaking the record set in 2024 in Detroit, when 775,000 fans attended.
The 2027 draft will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The 2028 draft is expected to be at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Cincinnati has shown interest for over a year now in hosting the draft, eyeing either 2028 or 2029. There is still plenty of work to be done, but the city hopes to be on track to host what has become the biggest event in the league, outside of the Super Bowl, in 2029.
