Shame on Churchill Downs. I find it greedy and, quite frankly, distasteful that just because they did not win the bid for the intellectual rights to the Preakness they have decided to leave this very historic and regionally important race out of their new "championship series." The Triple Crown has been the pinnacle of horseracing for over 100 years, when Sir Barton won all three races in 1919, even if it did not get its moniker until 1930. Obviously, Churchill Downs and New York Racing Association do not care about horseracing history or the people of Maryland who have supported the Preakness since before the first running of the Kentucky Derby. Money is the only king in this sport now.
