NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms expressed strong optimism about the New York Giants' decision to hire Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator, particularly regarding its impact on young quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Simms believes that Nagy's approach aligns well with Dart's strengths.
"I think Matt Nagy, I do think the way he runs an offense, it's going to fit Jaxson Dart," Simms told Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com. "Jaxson Dart has that playmaking, backyard football ability and I think Matt Nagy is going to enhance that because he'll understand the player he has."
Simms emphasized that Nagy will provide a necessary structure without suppressing Dart's natural talents.
"He's going to give the Giants some structure and some rules, and some offensive plays here, but he's not going to wipe away his natural God-given ability and his feel for the game, that's what I like," he said.
The hiring comes after Todd Monken departed Baltimore for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job, prompting head coach John Harbaugh to turn to Nagy, a 47-year-old veteran with prior experience as Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator under Andy Reid and as Chicago Bears head coach.
Nagy, a proponent of West Coast offense principles, values quarterbacks who can operate in the pocket, make downfield throws, and use mobility effectively -- traits Dart displayed as a rookie with instinctive plays, awareness, and improvisation.
Simms' endorsement suggests Nagy's experience mentoring quarterbacks and installing structured schemes could elevate Dart's development in 2026, balancing discipline with the freedom that fuels his playmaking prowess.
