The Minnesota Timberwolves are likely going to keep running it back in the next few seasons. Coach Chris Finch still has an exciting young core in Anthony Edwards, Naz Reid, and Jaden McDaniels. But, will they still have their veteran ballhandler in the next iteration of the NBA Playoffs? It will all be up to Mike Conley but the Timberwolves already made a case for re-signing him in free agency.

Timberwolves, Finch make case for Conley re-singing in free agency​

Coach Chris Finch wants the Timberwolves to have Mike Conley back for another run at the NBA Playoffs. Notably, the 19-year veteran signed a minimum contract with the Timberwolves after getting traded by the front office, traded again by the Chicago Bulls, and waived by the Charlotte Hornets. He is now set to enter free agency but his fate might already be sealed after the Timberwolves head coach made a case for re-signing him, via Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

"There’s always a role for Mike Conley. The guy’s an amazing basketball player. He’s an unbelievable winner. He competes no matter what the matchup is out there," Coach Finch said after their NBA Playoffs Game 1 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

Clearly, the decision is for Conley to make but it does not look like he needs more time to think about it. Despite getting benched a lot in favor of Donte DiVincenzo throughout the regular season, he wants to come back. He has fallen in love with the Timberwolves system.

"This has been home for us, this has been a great place for us to be. Love the guys, love the organization, Tim (Connelly), coach, everybody. Hopefully, we get an opportunity to be where we want to be at the end of this," Conley declared.

If all goes according to plan in free agency, Conley is headed to Year 20 and it will be spent with the Timberwolves.
