Chiefs trade rumor could lead to blockbuster deal for 49ers superstar originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly considering trading left tackle Trent Williams and the Kansas City Chiefs could be interested.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Williams and the Niners haven't been able to get a reworked contract done and now San Francisco is open to trading the 12-time Pro Bowler, who is still one of the very best offensive linemen in the NFL.

"The 49ers are now said to be open to trading Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams, sources say, if the situation doesn’t get resolved," Rapoport reported Monday. "A resolution has not been easy and Williams is frustrated with the process. He’s due $32M in salary with a $38M+ cap number."

In the wake of that report, Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom is hearing that the Chiefs are one of the teams believed to be interested in Williams.

"Kansas City is seen by many around the league as the team most eager to land [Williams] and the one that would be the best fit," La Canfora reported.

La Canfora goes on to add that Williams wants to win a Super Bowl and Kansas City can certainly afford him that opportunity.

Granted, it was believed the Chiefs might go into a transition year, but after making a big splash signing of Kenneth Walker, and with Travis Kelce coming back, it appears that may not be in the cards after all.

Williams doesn't fit the mold of the younger players the Chiefs need, as he's 37 years old. However, Williams is still elite and would provide an upgrade over anyone Kansas City has on its roster.

Speaking of that roster, the Chiefs cut Jawaan Taylor, but they still have Josh Simmons and Jaylon Moore, both of whom figure to start.

Perhaps the Chiefs can build a package around one of those two players, along with draft compensation, that would entice the 49ers to send Williams to KC.
