The Chicago Cubs team is just fine, but nothing more than that. It was another offseason where it felt like the Cubs didn’t do enough, something that’s been said far too often in this current era.

There are ways to fix that, even if it’s with a smaller upgrade. Someone like Wilmer Flores could be a nice platoon option at this rate.

With some injuries being an issue in Chicago, Flores sneakily looks like a player who could fit what it is trying to do.

While the Cubs could look to give internal options an opportunity at this exact moment, adding a proven right-handed hitter would give Chicago much more than what it currently has. Bench bats capable of swinging it are very important.

Chris Landers of FanSided predicted that Flores would be that guy due to what the Cubs need.

“Speaking of righty bench bats: The Cubs figure to be back in the market for one, after offseason acquisition Tyler Austin — penciled in as the righty counterpart to Michael Busch at first base and/or Moises Ballesteros at DH — underwent knee surgery that will keep him out until at least the summer. Chicago can try to just get by until then, but they could also look at Flores, who intends to continue his career after six seasons in San Francisco,” he wrote.

I understand that Flores is far from elite and wasn’t great last season, but the 34-year-old is still good enough to get at-bats on a team. He hit .241 with 16 home runs a campaign ago.
