D'Andre Swift set new career highs in his first season with Ben Johnson as his head coach and playcaller last season.
The Chicago Bears' running back ran for 1,087 yards, nine touchdowns and generated 62 first downs -- reaching new marks in his career. Swift also finished with a 22.9% rushing DVOA, finishing second in the NFL among players with at least 125 carries. He also ended with the seventh-most explosive runs (30).
Swift and fellow running back Kyle Monangai helped lead the Bears to 2,345 rushing yards, the third-most in the NFL.
The veteran running back spoke to the media at Halas Hall on Thursday during Phase 3 of organized team activities and shared what stood out to him from a production standpoint last season.
"Me personally, I thought it was a good year, solid," Swift said. "I thought I was able to capitalize off the opportunities I was given. I still felt like I left some out there. That's just me being critical of myself. Looking back over everything, for the most part, I think I did a good job of doing what I was asked to do."
When Swift was asked what he left out, the Bears' running back mentioned being consistent with his tracks and aiming points. Swift focuses on the small details just like Johnson does with his offense.
One area in Swift's game that didn't see as much growth as previous seasons was as a pass catcher. Swift finished with a career-low 34 receptions and added 299 yards and one touchdown.
“I mean, we certainly could target him more in the passing game, but there’s probably a number of guys I could say that for as well," Johnson said. "But he’s a dynamic player. I've known that about him since he came into the League, firsthand up there in Detroit, and certainly last year I wasn’t surprised about the year he had. So, is he capable of more? Absolutely. He absolutely is. And he's a vital part of what we do here.”
Speaking of doing more, Thursday's OTA practice highlighted how Swift can do that in Chicago's offense. Swift ran a wheel route and got behind the defense for one of the team's explosive plays.
"Once I took off and I seen how it was played, I was hoping so," Swift said when asked if he knew he was getting the ball on the play. "When I looked up and the ball was there. Great ball, great placement and I was able to make a play for him."
Swift's 2025 season was a good start for the veteran running back, but there could be more possibilities for him as he prepares for another year with Johnson and this Bears offense.
