Chelsea’s away shirt for the upcoming season will be a fairly snazzy-looking black number, with just enough design features and subtle patterning to make it interesting — unlike, say, last year’s third shirt, which was just a plain black tee at the end of the day.
While the classic color for a Chelsea away shirt, I’d argue, is yellow, both black and white have become popular design choices in more modern times, so this one fits the trend. (The rumored third kit for this season is white.)
The obvious standout feature of the shirt is the bold yellow pattern on the collar in sleeve trim. Sorry, I should say bold “Midwest Gold lustre” pattern on the collar and sleeves. It’s the same accent color as on the home shirt, and it’s a quality hue.
Also like the home shirt, we get just the rampant lion instead of the complete badge, which I appreciate from a fashion perspective (and it clashes less with the Club World Champions badge) but don’t really appreciate from a football club perspective. Would be nice if at least one of the shirts carried the full badge still. Please don’t mess with this; we get enough CFC LDN shoved in our faces elsewhere.
Whatever our away form’s going to be this season, at least we’re going to look very good.
You can spend far, far, far too much money on this shirt at the Megastore.
