Marc Cucurella has officially finalized his transfer to Real Madrid, bringing his tenure as a Chelsea player to a close. Chelsea have confirmed that Cucurella will join the La Liga powerhouse on a permanent basis.

The left-back is currently on international duty with Spain at the FIFA World Cup being staged in North America, and will formally make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu following the conclusion of the tournament.

Reports emerged on Sunday that Chelsea had reached an agreement on a £51.7 million ($69.4 million) total package for Cucurella to join Madrid, believed to comprise an initial fee of £47.4 million ($63.6 million) plus an additional £4.3 million ($5.8 million) in add-ons.

The transfer brings Cucurella's nearly four-year stint as a Chelsea player to an end, with the left-back having made 150 appearances following his £63 million ($76.3 million) switch from Brighton and Hove Albion, via The Mirror.

"Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid," read Chelsea's official statement.

Cucurella arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Brighton and was a key member of the squad that claimed both the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last year.

"During Cucurella's stay at Stamford Bridge, the 27-year-old defender regularly represented the Spanish national team and won the UEFA European Championships in 2024.

"Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements. We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career."

Madrid officially confirmed the acquisition of Cucurella, with the Spanish international heading to the Santiago Bernabeu on a six-year contract.

"Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032," Madrid confirmed in a statement.

Cucurella's departure comes just ahead of Xabi Alonso's first official day at the helm as Chelsea manager, with the former Real Madrid boss scheduled to take charge on July 1, having been appointed earlier this year.

Alonso will now head into next season without Chelsea's first-choice left-back from the previous season, and whether the Blues will dip into the transfer market for a replacement remains to be seen.

Chelsea wrapped up last season in 10th place in the Premier League and will have no European soccer next term, and the club's transfer intentions for the remainder of the summer window remain uncertain.
