Chelsea and Man City close to Maresca compensation package

Manchester City are nearing a financial settlement with Chelsea that will allow them to appoint Enzo Maresca as their new manager.

Chelsea are demanding a compensation package from Manchester City for Maresca, with the West Londoners insisting they have evidence of an illegal approach for the Italian.

Chelsea claim Maresca breached his contract by talking with Manchester City prior to his resignation at Stamford Bridge in January.

As a result, Chelsea want compensation for Maresca’s exit. The head coach’s departure contributed to a dismal second half of the season that resulted in a 10th-place finish and absence of European football. Chelsea also paid to appoint Liam Rosenior from Strasbourg after Maresca’s exit.

Though Chelsea chiefs are adamant that they have sufficient evidence to report Maresca and Manchester City to the Premier League, the Blues currently have no plans to do so and are confident a club-to-club resolution can be found.

According to The Guardian, an agreement between the clubs, who have a strong relationship, is now close.
