The Denver Broncos are looking to add more weapons for sophomore quarterback Bo Nix going into the 2025 season. One of those potential weapons may be undrafted free agent Toledo wide receiver Jerjuan Newton.
The Broncos brought in Newton to help a Broncos wide receiver corps that boasted veterans Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims Jr., along with second-year receivers Devaughn Vele and Troy Franklin. Newton was a six-year player in college, a product of the COVID-era college athletic rules, all for the Rockets. Newton actually played in 63 collegiate games, two more than the most experienced college player on the Broncos' roster: Bo Nix (61).
Newton (5-11, 190 pounds) was a two-time First-Team All-MAC recipient and a one-time Second-Team All-MAC selection. Newton caught 206 passes for 2,942 yards and 32 touchdowns in his six seasons. In 2023 and 2024, Newton led the MAC in touchdown catches (nine and 11, respectively), and he led the MAC in receiving yards in 2023 (696).
Newton also follows the Broncos' theme of bringing in leaders. Newton was named a team captain for Toledo in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Newton could become a great weapon for Nix, and become the latest undrafted free agent gem for Denver. As a reminder, the Broncos have had at least one undrafted free agent make the 53-man roster in 20 of the last 21 seasons.
