Andrew Tate’s return to combat sports did not go as planned.
On Saturday night, Tate returned to fighting for the first time in five years, challenging Chase DeMoor for the Misfits heavyweight title at Misfits Mania Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Dubai, UAE. And after a decent early start, Tate faded quickly, getting beaten up by the bigger, younger champion.
A former kickboxer turned influencer, Tate is an immensely controversial figure who is currently facing allegations of rape and human trafficking in multiple countries, allegations which he denies. But despite these charges, Tate still has numerous supporters, many of whom were in attendance on Saturday, chanting “Top-G!” as Tate made his way to the ring. Those same supporters were pleased early on as Tate used his superior striking skills to ding up DeMoor with jabs and body shots.
Things started to turn in the second round, though, as DeMoor started clinching and shoving Tate, making him carry his weight and wearing on the older fight. It worked well, tiring Tate out and slowing his offense. By the fourth round, Tate was visibly exhausted in the ring, and DeMoor began to pummel him with heavy shots, shoving him to the canvas multiple times. Despite the beating, Tate never went down, surviving to the final bell, where DeMoor was awarded a majority decision.
After the bout, Tate left his combat sports future up in the air, giving credit to DeMoor and saying he will go home and think about whether he will fight again. DeMoor, meanwhile, called out fellow influencer boxer Tommy Fury.
