While legendary coach Bill Belichick, 73, is returning to the sidelines after accepting the head coaching job at North Carolina this offseason, much of the sports world has been buzzing about his recent CBS interview—which took an awkward and uncomfortable turn.
The moment came when Belichick was asked how he met his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, 24, and she abruptly interjected—shutting down the question mid-interview.
The incident sparked significant backlash directed at Hudson. Belichick later defended her, saying she was simply doing her job by keeping the conversation focused on the interview’s intended topic—his new book about his father and their time at Navy.
Nonetheless, a second interview between Belichick and CBS has since been canceled. Given Hudson’s visible involvement with the North Carolina program and the awkward handling of the interview, several people have expressed concern—most recently, Belichick’s friend and NBA legend Charles Barkley.
Appearing on the "Dan Patrick Show" on Wednesday, Barkley admitted the situation made him uncomfortable enough that he might reach out to Belichick personally to check in on him.
Belichick is entering his first season with the Tar Heels, marking his debut as a collegiate head coach. While there’s considerable anticipation surrounding his return to the sidelines with a new team, the focus shifting away from the football program and toward his personal relationship is unusual—and, for many, concerning.

Hudson, 24, is not employed by the university but reportedly has access to all of Belichick’s North Carolina emails. She has been operating as an unofficial communications and administrative assistant to the coach.

"Well, this is a very slippery subject for me, because Bill's one of my really good friends," Barkley said. "I'm not really sure what's going on. He's been a great friend of mine for a long time."
He continued, "He's the greatest football coach ever... but from what I'm hearing, it's starting to feel like a very slippery slope. I never talk about people's personal relationships—that's a rule I have—but I will admit, I'm a little concerned with some of the stuff going on, and I might actually reach out to him."
