The Los Angeles Chargers and offensive coordinator Greg Roman and offensive line coach Mike Devlin are parting ways after two seasons.
In 2024, Roman's first year, the Chargers' offense improved significantly from the prior regime, jumping to 11th in points scored (from 21st in 2023). It ranked 13th in EPA per-play overall, rising to 7th from Weeks 6-18 as the unit adapted to the run-heavy scheme amid quarterback Justin Herbert's injuries.
In 2025, the offense regressed in efficiency, finishing No. 18 in passing and No. 22 in points per game. Herbert threw for 3,727 yards with 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, but was sacked 54 times (second-most in the NFL) and hit 129 times.
Roman struggled when it mattered the most, in the postseason. The Bolts are coming off a game in which they scored just 3 points in the 16-3 wild-card loss to the Patriots. In their two playoff losses during his tenure, the team scored only one touchdown on 22 total possessions.
The team will begin searching for their new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in hopes of evolving the offense, getting the most out of Herbert, and finally getting them a playoff win.
