The Chargers have been named a potential fit for New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux by ESPN.

Thibodeaux reportedly has a 70% chance of being traded, with the Bengals and Bears also being named as possible fits for the edge.

ESPN's Dan Graziano explained why there may no longer be room for Thibodeaux in New York.

"The Giants have a surplus of impact defensive linemen with Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, and it seems more likely they'll try to find a trade partner for Thibodeaux than extend the 2022 first-round pick ahead of his fifth-year-option season. The question is whether the Giants can find a taker for him at that salary in a deep offseason edge rusher market, but the chatter at the combine indicates they're going to try," Graziano writes.

The 25-year-old is entering a contract year, which may propel the edge to perform on a more consistent basis in matchups next season. ESPN noted that Thibodeaux "generates quick pressures with hand usage and a killer first step."

In 2025, Thibodeaux recorded 2.5 sacks, 13 solo tackles, five tackles for loss, and nine quarterback hits. While he didn't accrue many sacks last year, he posted 11.5 sacks in 2023.

The market for edge rushers is hot, which may discourage teams from heavily pursuing Thibodeaux because of his up-and-down production. On the other hand, the Giants edge could be an under-the-radar pickup by the Bolts that pans out nicely.

Chargers have decision to make on key free agents

The Chargers have to decide whether to bring back Khalil Mack and Odafe Oweh, who are both slated to hit free agency. Moreover, Tuli Tuipulotu is eligible for a contract extension.

General manager Joe Hortiz was asked whether the Chargers will re-sign Mack and Oweh.

"I have no problem having a bunch of great edge rushers," Hortiz said at the NFL Combine Tuesday.

"They know we want them back. I think when players go into free agency once the season ends, it takes a little bit of time but we'll keep chipping away at it and see if we can get something done with them."
