The Los Angeles Chargers are amidst a competitive training camp, and football is nearly back. Several players will vie for a handful of roster spots. The Chargers hope they will select the right players to take the field for the team in the 2026 season.
Many watch the NFL for stars and starting players, but training camp and preseason is all about the backups and who will take the final open roster spots.
Los Angeles has an idea of the team it will field in the upcoming year, but nothing is 100% solidified yet. There are a few players with high ceilings and low floors that have yet to establish themselves in the league. One analyst is talking about which Chargers players have the most to gain from a good offseason.
ESPN NFL analyst Kris Rhim previewed the Chargers' 2026 season and made predictions on which players are worth watching prior to the preseason. Rhim identified two returning players as noteworthy camp performers to watch over the next month. Here's some of what Rhim had to say on wide receiver Tre' Harris and linebacker Junior Colson.
"WR Tre' Harris: The Chargers drafted Harris in the second round last year but he had a minimal role as a rookie, mainly excelling as a run blocker. The Chargers expect him to be a legitimate part of their passing offense in Year 2 alongside Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.
LB Junior Colson: Colson won a national championship with Harbaugh at Michigan during the 2023 season before his college coach drafted him in the third round of the 2024 draft. But Colson struggled as a rookie, then missed last season with a shoulder injury. Colson could push to start next to Daiyan Henley or risk not making the 53-man roster."

Presumably, Colson has the faith of Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who coached Colson in his time with the Michigan Wolverines. Still, it is one Colson to prove worthy of a roster spot again in 2026.
Harris has shown glimpses of playmaking ability but lacked the explosion that fellow receiver Quentin Johnston has brought to Los Angeles in Johnston's first couple of years with the team. Some are wondering if Harris can make the leap from the 300's in receiving yards to between 500 and 700 yards this season.
The Chargers will need players to step up if they want to reach their goals this season. Harris and Colson will hope to elevate the team's floor as training camp gets underway.
