CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) - Centennial football is gearing up for its first season under head coach Keegan Hill.
The Chargers new staff and players are getting to know one another throughout early practices.
"Establishing what I'm about, what they're about," Hill told WCIA. "The momentum we've created we want to build on in practice before week one."
Rising junior Shamir Clark is expected to start at quarterback, following a sophomore season in which he got some varsity reps under center.
"He's a nice athlete, very stable kid," Hill said. "We like coaching him."
Senior wide receiver Escko Law is eager to get back on the field after missing some games due to injury in 2025.
"I've grown in my releases, my route work, how I attack the ball, my speed," he said.
While change can be difficult, many Chargers' upperclassmen are hoping to do their part to make the coaching change a seamless transition.
"I just look at the positive sides," senior defensive back Jonathan Kolanji said. "I don't try to be negative. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's anything bad. I try to help the coaches get to know the people from the past too. It's been all one big family for sure."
Centennial opens the season on a Saturday, Aug. 22, hosting Urbana.
